Thinking Liberty is a weekly call-in radio show where topics are discussed from an engaging, libertarian anarchist perspective. Topics can range from what’s going on in the news to whatever is on the caller’s mind. Thinking Liberty is striving to present guests (both in studio and via the phone) that represent the full spectrum of anarchy.

No show yet? Hmmm… Here’s a synopsis of what I’m postive has been happening: Bosco built a double kayak from popsicle sticks, and he and Tennyson rowed to London to join in the Femen topless protests. After their inevitable arrest (which was, of course, videoed by Bile), Darian bailed them out with his generous History TA stipend. On the way back from jail, the group passed by the Equadorian embassy and found that Julian Assange was hanging out there, awaiting a decision on his asylum request. After pints at the pub, Bosco and Assange (disguised as Tennyson) kayaked back to the Shire, where Assange will now be the Tuesday night cohost on FTL. Bile, Darian, and Tennyson moved on to Israel to meet Julian Heicklen, but that’s a story for another time.

If you want to study up before today’s beer segment, here’s something to read:

GERMANY’S PURITY LAW
Following is an English translation of the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law) adopted in 1516, the oldest provision still enforced to protect the consumer. This is taken from the article “History of German Brewing” by Karl J. Eden, published in ‘zymurgy’ magazine, Vol. 16, No. 4 Special 1993.

“We hereby proclaim and decree, by Authority of our Province, that henceforth in the Duchy of Bavaria, in the country as well as in the cities and marketplaces, the following rules apply to the sale of beer:

“From Michaelmas to Georgi, the price for one Mass [Bavarian Liter 1,069] or one Kopf [bowl-shaped container for fluids, not quite one Mass], is not to exceed one Pfennig Munich value, and

“From Georgi to Michaelmas, the Mass shall not be sold for more than two Pfennig of the same value, the Kopf not more than three Heller [Heller usually one-half Pfennig].

“If this not be adhered to, the punishment stated below shall be administered.

“Should any person brew, or otherwise have, other beer than March beer, it is not to be sold any higher than one Pfennig per Mass.

“Furthermore, we wish to emphasize that in future in all cities, markets and in the country, the only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be Barley, Hops and Water. Whosoever knowingly disregards or transgresses upon this ordinance, shall be punished by the Court authorities’ confiscating such barrels of beer, without fail.

“Should, however, an innkeeper in the country, city or markets buy two or three pails of beer (containing 60 Mass) and sell it again to the common peasantry, he alone shall be permitted to charge one Heller more for the Mass of the Kopf, than mentioned above. Furthermore, should there arise a scarcity and subsequent price increase of the barley (also considering that the times of harvest differ, due to location), WE, the Bavarian Duchy, shall have the right to order curtailments for the good of all concerned.”

Due to Darian’s recent conversion to state communism, Bosco’s decision to join the United States Marines and Tennyson’s new job as a Washington DC lobbyist for Monsanto the producer of Thinking Liberty has decided to change the name of the show to Acting Violently. The show’s hosts former selves would like to thank you all for listening and hope you continue carrying on the torch of liberty because clearly these bums have failed miserably. The new hosts however would like to inform you that you will all be assimilated. Resistance if futile.

Actually… real announcement is that the Thinking Liberty hosts are in fact rather strapped for time and with new toll increases the cost of traveling will be increased somewhat significantly too. As a result, as announced on the 2011-09-06 show, sometime starting in October Thinking Liberty will be moving to a bi-weekly or monthly schedule. The day of recording (still live and in the evening) may change also. We may lengthen the show to 3 hours. Should there be anyone in the NYC / Edgewater, NJ area who would be interested in being a regular in-studio host please contact us as that may be a possibility to keep the frequency of productions up. The hosts are still working out the details of the change but wanted to give everyone a heads up. We really appreciate your support and will try our best to keep the bombast flowing. If you donate regularly to the show and wish to scale back due to our slacking we won’t shame you… much.

Again, thanks for your support. Enjoy the archives. We’ll still be on weekly till at least the October 11th show when we’ll have the pickling contest. And please…. could you get the Koch brothers to fund us so we can get back to bombasting?! Thanks. –bile
